Sex and gender are two concepts that are closely related and influence our sexual roles and ideas about sex. Sexual roles are determined by social and cultural norms and expectations that are imposed on people based on their sex. Gender, on the other hand, is defined as a social construct that determines what traits, qualities, and behaviors are considered masculine or feminine.

Research shows that our sexual roles and ideas about sex are often shaped by the binary idea of gender - as male and female. Differences in sexual roles and expectations for men and women can manifest themselves in many aspects, such as initiating sexual activity, preferences in sexual partners, response to sexual stimuli, etc.

For example, in most societies, men are considered to be the active and proactive partner in sex, while women are considered the passive and decorative object of pleasure. Such stereotypes can create problems in relationships and lead to inequality in the sexual sphere.

Sex and gender also influence our understanding of sexual orientation and identity. Standard ideas about gender and sex can hinder the recognition and awareness of one’s sexual orientation, especially if it does not correspond to the heterosexual stereotype. For example, LGBTQ+ people may face discrimination and negative ideas about their sexuality due to sociocultural attitudes.

However, modern society is becoming more open and tolerant to various forms of sexuality and gender. Thanks to the active work of the LGBTQ+ community and the efforts of human rights defenders, many people today feel freer to express their sexual orientation and gender identity.

It is important to understand that sex and gender are complex and multifaceted concepts that affect all aspects of our lives, including our relationships, self-perception, and sexual activity. Education and awareness on this topic help create a more tolerant and inclusive environment where everyone can feel comfortable and accepted.
