Many believe that masturbation is necessary for a man if he does not have regular sex. A recent Harvard University study published in European Urology found that men who ejaculate at least 21 times a month may reduce their chances of developing prostate cancer.

How is masturbation related to cancer?
Prostate cancer is a serious problem. Worldwide, about 1.1 million men are diagnosed with this disease each year.

More than 300,000 men will die of prostate cancer this year alone. The risk increases dramatically in men over 65, with more than 85% of cases diagnosed in men of retirement age.

The Harvard study consisted of a questionnaire filled out by about 32,000 men over an 18-year period. The researchers found an association between incidence and how many times men in the group had sex or masturbated.

A research team led by Professor Jennifer R. Ryder found overwhelming evidence that men who cum at least five times a week had a significantly reduced risk of developing prostate cancer.

How does the disease manifest itself?
Many scientists believe that orgasm can flush out carcinogenic toxins that would otherwise accumulate in the prostate.

"We found that men who report a higher frequency of ejaculation in adulthood are less likely to be subsequently diagnosed with prostate cancer," the study says.

Problems with urination are considered symptoms of prostate cancer, and it occurs more often at night. Men notice traces of blood in the urine, pain in the hips or pelvic area, especially during ejaculation, and erectile dysfunction.

Men who experience these symptoms are advised to see a doctor.
