History of nudism

Although the idea of living naked has existed in various cultures for centuries, the modern nudism movement began in the late 19th century. Its roots can be found in the philosophy of natural living, which emphasized the harmony of man with nature. Proponents of nudism believed that clothing constrained movement, limited freedom and negatively affected health.

1893: German physician Karl Ludwig Müller founded the first nudist community in Germany, calling it "Heilkundige Anstalt Sonnenstein" ("Sun Sanatorium").
1899: English writer Henry Spencer published The Naked Truth, which became one of the first manifestos of the nudist movement.
1900: The first nudist colony, Le Paradis Terrestre (The Garden of Eden), was founded in France.
1923: The first nudist club, The American Sun Club, was founded in the United States.
