Indonesian Police Ban Penis Enlargement for Job Applicants

In a move that has stirred controversy, the police department in Indonesia's Papua province has introduced a new regulation for job applicants. Effective immediately, male candidates seeking employment with the police force will face questioning regarding the enlargement of their genitals. This decision, as reported by Reuters citing Kompas, stems from concerns about the unnatural size of the penis interfering with police and military training.

According to Bekto Suprapto, the chief of police in Papua, if an applicant confesses to having enlarged their penis, they will be disqualified from serving in the police force or the military. The enforcement of this measure is driven by the belief that an artificially enhanced genitalia hampers physical activities crucial for law enforcement officers and soldiers.

Papua province is home to numerous indigenous tribes, including the Papuans, who have traditional methods for enlarging the penis. These practices involve the use of natural elements such as leaves from the gatal-gatal tree, known for its itching properties. Experts, cited by Jakarta Globe, suggest that wrapping genitalia with these leaves causes an increase in size over time, likening the sensation to a bee sting.

The introduction of this regulation has sparked a debate on cultural practices versus modern standards in Indonesia. While some argue that such measures are necessary to ensure the effectiveness of law enforcement, others view it as an intrusion into personal privacy and cultural traditions.
