Addressing Public Bus Sexual Activity in Thailand

In a bid to tackle a growing concern, authorities in the Thai capital have initiated steps to curb instances of sexual activity among students on public buses. This comes in response to mounting criticism directed at the Bangkok Department of Public Transport, prompted by the findings of a local university study.

University Study Unveils Disturbing Trends

A recent study conducted by a local university shed light on a troubling trend: a significant number of college students are reportedly engaging in sexual activities while commuting on public buses, particularly during the evening hours when returning home from classes. The study highlighted that these incidents often involve couples occupying rear seats of buses with tinted windows, seeking privacy for their activities.

Confirmation from Conductors and Passengers

The concerns raised by the study were further validated through surveys conducted among bus conductors and several passengers. They confirmed being witnesses to inappropriate behavior among students, particularly on buses servicing Route 12, which predominantly caters to commuters from evening colleges and travels to the city outskirts.

Measures Taken by Authorities

In response to these revelations, authorities took decisive action. Buses operating on Route 12 had their curtains removed, previously used by couples to conceal their activities. Additionally, public service announcements urging young passengers to adhere to traditional standards of behavior have been prominently displayed within buses on this route.
