Sex is often portrayed as a source of joy and intimacy, but recent studies have highlighted its darker side, revealing potential risks that lurk beneath the sheets.

Sexual pleasure, one of the most intense phenomena of the nervous system, can sometimes turn deadly. Statistics indicate that men are 20 times more likely to die during sex than women, primarily due to the physical strain it places on their bodies. However, women are not exempt from danger either. There have been cases where vigorous sexual activity led to heart attacks or asphyxiation, such as choking on ejaculate or a slipped condom.

Physiologically, sex triggers a cascade of responses in the body, including increased temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate. Hormones flood the bloodstream, with adrenaline levels spiking up to 40 times the normal amount. For individuals, particularly men, with pre-existing heart conditions, these physiological changes can spell trouble, potentially resulting in fatal outcomes. Those at higher risk include individuals with obesity and those prone to sudden changes in blood pressure.

While libido-enhancing stimulants may invigorate sexual desire, they fail to rejuvenate other bodily systems. Although a man may feel sexually revitalized, his heart and blood vessels do not experience the same renewal. Sex, with its increased blood flow, imposes a burden that the cardiovascular system may struggle to bear. Consequently, this can lead to heart attacks or strokes, depending on which system succumbs to the strain.

Startlingly, 75% of men who have died during sexual encounters were in bed with a lover or an escort. Urologists recommend engaging in sex approximately five times a week, as they believe it reduces the risk of prostate cancer by a third. Regular sexual activity facilitates the elimination of carcinogens from the body, which accumulate during sperm production.
