Understanding the Benefits
Many women shy away from discussing the possibility of sex during their periods due to entrenched stereotypes. However, there's nothing inherently wrong in exploring this option. Surprisingly, some women find that engaging in sex during menstruation can actually alleviate menstrual pain. This is attributed to oxytocin, produced during sex, which enhances both physical and emotional well-being.

Debunking Myths
Contrary to popular belief, having sex during menstruation does not necessarily lead to endometriosis, as studies have not supported this assumption. However, painful menstruation, scientifically known as dysmenorrhea, affects a significant percentage of women. Whether to engage in sex during this period often depends on the type of pain experienced. If the pain disrupts daily life during the initial days, it might be advisable to postpone sex.

Prevalence and Preferences
Statistics show that about 48% of surveyed women engage in sex during menstruation, with 51% preferring vaginal intercourse. Surprisingly, 40% opt for oral or manual stimulation, while only 5% explore oral sex or fingering. Notably, there’s a substantial disparity in activities directed towards women versus those directed towards men during this time.

Social Stigma and Comfort
A significant reason behind these disparities lies in societal stigmas. Many women feel uncomfortable due to the natural scent and texture of vaginal secretions, thus avoiding intimacy. Approximately 46% of heterosexual women admitted feeling ashamed about having sex during menstruation, while 64% of heterosexual men saw no reason to abstain from intimacy.

Overcoming Concerns
The technicalities of having sex during menstruation worry many. Contrary to common perception, the shower isn’t the only viable location. Like any other time, mutual comfort is crucial during sex while menstruating. Modern hygiene products designed for sexual activities during menstruation can alleviate concerns about soiled sheets, ensuring a comfortable experience.
