Unveiling the Noise of Intimacy
Despite long-standing scrutiny of human sexual behavior, sounds accompanying intimacy remained poorly documented. To rectify this, Andrey Anikin, a researcher from the Cognitive Science Department at Lund University's Faculty of Philosophy, turned to orgasmsoundlibrary.com. The website allows individuals to share audio recordings made during sex or masturbation.

The New Study on Sex
This comprehensive analysis encompassed over 3500 files. After meticulous filtering based on length and noise level, the researcher selected 2239 audio recordings, amounting to approximately 34 hours, representing authentic sounds of sexual episodes.

Gendered Sounds
Among these recordings were both male (289) and female (1950) voices. The study involved analyzing the acoustic parameters of these sounds and evaluating their auditory perception. For the latter, over 100 volunteers aged 18 and above participated in an online assessment of human sounds during sex.

Equal Noise Levels
While 26% of sounds emitted by women resonated at an A4 pitch, equivalent to 440 Hertz, only 1.2% of these lasted more than one second and reached a C5 pitch (approximately 520 Hertz). Moreover, excessively loud and prolonged sounds were perceived as exaggerated and artificial.
