Understanding Yeast Infections
Yeast infections, known as vulvovaginal candidiasis, occur due to an overgrowth of the Candida albicans fungus in the vagina. While Candida is naturally present, its overgrowth happens under certain conditions, including disruptions in the vaginal microbiome. Symptoms include itching, cottage cheese-like discharge, pain during sexual intercourse, and urination.

Can Oral Sex Cause Yeast Infections?
Several studies suggest a potential link between oral sex and yeast infections. In one study examining 394 women's vaginal microbiota using PCR methods, those who practiced oral sex had, on average, double the amount of Candida fungi.

Scientific Insights
Another study indicated that sexual practices play a significant role in yeast infection development compared to the mere presence of Candida fungi in the body. Involving 149 women, this research suggested that oral sex nearly doubled the risk of yeast infections.

Recurrence and Controversy
Yeast infections often recur in many women. Scientists have theorized that cunnilingus might contribute to this form of the disease.

The Debate and Scientific Community
Despite years of study, current data hasn't convinced the professional community to officially classify oral sex as a cause of bacterial vaginosis or yeast infections. The role of this sexual practice in their development still requires further evidence. Therefore, advising against it would be unsubstantiated
