Masturbation and Physical Activity

Masturbation is a topic often surrounded by myths and stereotypes. Recent studies attempting to determine whether masturbation can aid in weight loss have provided intriguing results. Scientists compared the physical activity during masturbation to other forms of activity, such as sex and workouts. It turns out that while masturbation can lead to an increased heart rate and even perspiration, it is not intense enough to contribute significantly to weight reduction. According to a study from the University of Montreal, during sex, one can burn only about 4.2 calories per minute, and the average duration of sex is just 5.4 minutes.

In comparison to regular high-intensity workouts, where approximately 9.2 calories are burned per minute, masturbation does not appear to be a significant means for weight loss. However, it's important to note that the data from these studies are limited, and further research is needed for a more precise assessment of the effectiveness of masturbation in calorie burning. Some scientists have attempted to estimate the number of calories burned during masturbation using heart rate and other indicators, but the results of such calculations still lack a reliable connection to actual calories burned during the process.

Masturbation and Hormones

Interestingly, one theory related to masturbation and weight loss concerns the impact of sexual arousal on the "hunger" hormone - ghrelin. According to researcher Nicole Prauz, sexual arousal can suppress the production of ghrelin, which, in turn, may reduce feelings of hunger. This presents an intriguing aspect in exploring the potential link between masturbation and weight management. However, as in the previous case, further research is required for more precise conclusions.

So, despite the fact that masturbation can bring physical and psychological health benefits, there are currently no definitive scientific data confirming its ability to contribute to weight loss. However, this does not mean that one should refrain from this normal and natural aspect of sexual life. Masturbation can have numerous positive aspects for health and well-being, regardless of its impact on weight. New research is likely to continue revealing interesting aspects of this topic and expanding our understanding of the relationship between sex, health, and physical activity.
