Sex and Intelligence: How Sex Positively Influences the Brain as Proven by Research

Recent research suggests that sex has a positive impact on intelligence and cognitive abilities. Scientists in England conducted a study among elderly individuals aged 50 to 83, and the results showed that individuals with a more active sex life performed better in tests of speech fluency and visual-spatial abilities. But why does this happen? According to the article's authors, it's not just the physical activity of sex but also the social aspects. An active sex life is associated with a richer social life, which, in turn, helps maintain and enhance intelligence.

The research also found that elderly individuals with a higher level of sexual activity scored better in memory tests. This was confirmed in a British study conducted in 2018 among people over 50 years old, where physical and sexual activity were identified as crucial factors. Furthermore, the presence of emotional closeness with a partner played a significant role. Thus, it seems that sex not only uplifts one's mood but also enhances memory.

Additional studies, such as one carried out by McGill University in 2017, also corroborate the positive influence of sex on memory. Among women aged 18 to 29, researchers discovered that the more frequently they engaged in sex, the better they remembered abstract words. However, this effect did not apply to the ability to remember faces.

Sex and Mental Wellbeing: How Sex Helps Combat Depression and Anxiety

Special attention is given to the connection between sex and mental health. A study conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy demonstrated that sex during isolation reduced levels of depression and anxiety. More frequent sexual activity resulted in lower scores on online surveys assessing anxiety disorders and depression. Those who were not sexually active had a 32% higher risk of developing anxiety disorders compared to those who engaged in regular sexual activity.

An international study conducted in 2019 among the elderly also confirmed that sexually active individuals reported higher life satisfaction. Kissing, caressing, petting, and emotional closeness with a partner also had a positive impact on life satisfaction. Interestingly, for women, the presence of penetrative sex was less crucial than gentle touches and caresses, while for men, these factors had a roughly equal effect.

However, it is worth noting that the absence of sex does not always have a significant impact on a person's wellbeing. American surveys conducted among people of different ages from 1988 to 2002 indicated that individuals not leading an active sex life reported levels of happiness that were approximately the same as those who were sexually active.

Sex and Sleep: How Orgasms Affect Sleep Quality

Research also suggests that sex and orgasms can have a positive impact on sleep quality. Almost 70% of men and women noted that their sleep improved after achieving orgasm with a partner. Even during masturbation, 54% of respondents stated that they experienced similar positive effects. This effect was not significantly affected by gender differences.

However, it is essential to note that sex is not always a solution for poor sleep. Sleep deprivation is associated with decreased sexual desire in women and an increased risk of erectile dysfunction in men. Therefore, while sex contributes to improved sleep quality, it is not always the remedy, especially in cases of chronic sleep deprivation.

The research demonstrates that sex deeply influences various aspects of our lives, including cognitive abilities, emotional well-being, and sleep quality. Sex is an integral part of a healthy and happy life, and scientific research confirms its positive impact on our bodies and mental well-being.
